Hickory Rescue Squad has a long and proud history of providing emergency rescue services to the City of Hickory and surrounding Catawba County communities. Originally organized as the Catawba Valley Life Saving and Rescue Squadron in 1955, the organization grew to become an important part of the area’s emergency response system. In 1964, the organization officially became known as Hickory Rescue Squad, continuing its commitment to protecting and serving the community.
For more than five decades, Hickory Rescue Squad provided dedicated rescue and emergency services to the Hickory area. On June 30, 2018, Hickory Rescue Squad ceased operations following the end of its county service agreement. As part of this transition, Maiden Rescue Squad assumed responsibility for the former Hickory Rescue Squad’s second base, along with its vehicles and equipment.
While Maiden Rescue Squad did not serve within the City of Hickory, the transition allowed the rescue services and resources of the former second base to continue serving the surrounding communities. Today, Maiden Rescue Squad carries that tradition forward, proudly providing medical and technical rescue services to Mountain View, Vale, and Propst Crossroads.
The history of Hickory Rescue Squad remains an important part of the foundation on which our current rescue service was built. We are proud to honor that history while continuing to serve our communities with the same dedication to helping others.
